Welcome to my May newsletter!

All things ‘EARTHY’ will help to uplift us and to feel ‘HEARTY’ as we enter the month of May and the grounding vibrations of Taurus. Here we are invited to SLOW down, to enjoy delicious food, to indulge ourselves in some healthy comforts, to connect to nature and to build something that is really sustainable in our lives. It’s a time to let the beauty of nature fill up your cups and your hearts.

That being said, we don’t always feel great and life throws us curve balls at times that can be difficult to navigate and to accept. I wanted to share a book that I’ve been reading with you that has helped me to navigate some recent challenges…
‘The Five Things We Cannot Change and the Happiness We Find by Embracing Them’ by David Richo. Those five things are:

  • Everything changes and ends
  • Things do not always go according to plan
  • Life is not always fair
  • Pain is a part of life
  • People are not loving and loyal all of the time

Within each challenge lies a lesson to be learned, wisdom to be gained, and serenity to be discovered. By engaging in a regular Kundalini Yoga practice, we can nurture and restore our nervous systems, enabling us to remain grounded and resilient, no matter what life presents. The symbolic lotus flower, emerging from murky depths to bloom in the light, beautifully illustrates this journey.

When we tune in, we connect to the golden chain, the link between the student, the teacher, and the lineage of teachers before. When we practice, we remove the blocks that hold us back from being and experiencing our authentic selves.

Taurus, the steadfast sign of Earth, harmonizes with our root chakra, its vibrant hue a warm earthy red.

In its positive essence, it embodies the comforting qualities of security, grounding, connection, nurturing, and trust. This foundational energy supports our very survival and human functions, resonating with the fourth chakra, Anahata, the sacred unstruck sound. Intriguingly, the word “Heart” serves as an anagram of “Earth.” It is located at the base of the spine area and spreads the earth element through the body, thus with a balanced and well functioning root chakra, we feel connected and grounded

Mantra for May

SA TA NA MA

RA MA DA SA

SA SE SO HUNG

This is a beautiful and powerful mantra for removing blocks and negativity. It creates a positive tomorrow and can change your luck and allow prosperity to flow. Pronounced “SAA TAA NAA MAA, RAA MAA DAA SAA, SAA SEE SO HUNG“, it relates to Ganesha the Hindu God of knowledge and happiness.

To chant:

Sit in easy pose and as you chant the index finger touches the thumb on SA, the middle finger on TA, the ring finger on NA and the little finger on MA, continue with this pattern for the rest of the mantra. Chant for 11 minutes in a monotone chant. To end: Inhale and move the body in a slow twist and stretch motion, then exhale powerfully. Repeat 3 more times, then sit perfectly still and look at the tip of the nose for 2 mins, and feel perfectly calm in meditation.

Pranayama for May

Alternate nostril breathing. Relax and enjoy a feeling of well-being!

The energy of the nervous system is directly proportional to one’s breathing. Ancient yogic texts explain that the nostril on the right is our sun nostril and it controls our energy level; our left nostril is our lunar nostril and it controls our emotions.

Consequently if we are tired, breathing long and deep through the right nostril will give us added energy. Breathing through the left nostril will bring us calmness even in the midst of emotions (anger, nervousness, joy, sadness). When we breathe long and deeply, through alternate nostrils, the whole nervous system is soothed, calmed and energized simultaneously.

All that is required of a person is to do this alternate nostril breathing for 3–5 minutes and their whole nervous system will be revitalized. This particular technique is very simple; yet very effective. It is extremely helpful when we feel off-center and we still must function in the everyday world. This technique can help us calm ourselves and be effective in our communication.
